Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association Celebrates National Food Safety Education Month
ANSING, Mich. – As National Food Safety Education Month comes to an end, the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association (MRLA) will continue to promote awareness of common foodborne illnesses and the steps to prevent them. In the hospitality industry, food safety and restaurant hygiene are vital, and access to updated tips, resources and trainings support these efforts for businesses across Michigan.
The National Restaurant Association and Michigan Food Safety highlights educational resources for individuals and businesses to understand, manage, and prevent potential foodborne illness outbreaks. By taking steps to prevent foodborne illness, businesses invest in creating a food safety culture that is compliant with national industry regulations, improves staff retention and enhances customer satisfaction. Resources can be found at FoodSafetyFocus.com.
In the food service business, controlling food contamination helps keep yourself and your team healthy. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that washing your hands is the easiest and most effective way to prevent germs. Additional measures include wearing gloves and reporting illness to a manager. Personal hygiene and environmental awareness can positively impact restaurant food safety.
“This month, we shared our commitment to food safety in the industry by raising awareness about foodborne illnesses and providing prevention resources,” said Amanda Smith, Executive Vice President, Education of MRLA. “Our association will continue to promote food safety education that advances industry food safety protocol and protects public health.”
MRLA is proud to align with national standards for food safety training and education. We offer ServSafe food manager, responsible alcohol, food handler and allergen training to the entire hospitality industry year-round. More information on training can be found at www.mrla.org/training.
