Michigan Supreme Court Adopt & Amend Oral Arguments
“The oral arguments put forth today in the Michigan Supreme Court regarding the constitutionality of ‘adopt and amend’ were universally illuminative and a worthwhile exercise of our constitutional democracy,” said Justin Winslow, President and CEO of the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association. “It became indisputably clear, however, that the strength and clarity of the argument in favor of the legislature’s authority prevailed.”
“We are hopeful for an advisory opinion from the Court that reflects the legislature’s legitimate authority,” Winslow continued. “In the interim, the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association will continue to educate as to why the tip credit is so fundamentally important to Michigan’s restaurant servers and advocate for a vibrant hospitality industry that employs more than 600,000 Michiganders.
