Peter Beukema as New Board Member
LANSING, MICH. – The Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association (MRLA) is pleased to announce that Peter Beukema has joined the MRLA Board of Directors. The announcement was made by Justin Winslow, President & CEO of the MRLA.
“We are proud to have dynamic industry leaders like Peter Beukema join the MRLA Board of Directors,” said Winslow. “As someone who grew up in the hotel business and now runs an organization comprised of 7 hotels and 8 restaurants in Michigan, Peter brings unique insight about the hospitality industry.”
Beukema is the Visionary, Chief Executive Officer and partner for Suburban Inns, a family-owned and operated hotel and restaurant management and development company founded more than 40 years ago. Suburban Inns operates seven world-class hotels under six different franchises, in addition to more than eight restaurants. In 2018, Beukema was named as a “40 Under 40” honoree by the Grand Rapids Business Journal. Under Beukema’s leadership, Suburban Inns was named one of “West Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work for” in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. In addition to his role on the MRLA Board of Directors, Beukema serves on the IHG Owners Association Board of Directors and is a member of the Holland SmartZone Board, which works to spur technology development and business creation in the greater Holland Michigan area.
Beukema attended Northwood University in West Palm Beach, Fla. where he focused on hospitality before returning to Michigan to join the family business. He is a certified hotel administrator (CHA) and served as general manager of the Holiday Inn Express in Holland, a Suburban Inns property, before being promoted to COO in 2005. Beukema become CEO in 2016 when his father and company founder Peter Beukema retired. He and his wife Michelle reside in Zeeland, MI with their four children.
