Controlling Risk: Free Resources Available For Restaurateurs
LANSING, MICH. –In its ongoing commitment to food safety, the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association (MRLA) and the National Restaurant Association (NRA) has announced this year’s National Food Safety Month (NFSM) theme, Controlling Risk: The Elements of a Food Safety Management System. Free resources are available to restaurant operators at michiganfoodsafety.com/nfsm.
“Food safety resources are an essential service we provide to our members and the overall industry,” said Justin Winslow, President and CEO of the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association. “This September, we are providing additional free tools for foodservice professionals to develop and execute a strong Food Safety Management System (FSMS) . The culture of food safety is not the responsibility of one person. A key theme throughout the month is ‘food safety comes down to you!’ As a champion of the hospitality industry we want to empower the 440,000 food service employees in the state to take an active role in ensuring their organization’s policies and procedures achieve the highest food safety standards.”
NFSM, recognized each September, was created in 1994 to heighten the awareness of food safety education. Each year, a new theme is featured with free training activities and posters for the restaurant and foodservice industry to help reinforce proper food safety practices and procedures. New training tools and resources are available for each week including activities, posters, infographics, and videos. The themes for each week include:

This team stays on the cutting edge of food safety for the foodservice industry. The team is composed of individuals with diverse backgrounds in food service operations, regulatory affairs, industry suppliers, food manufacturing and food science. In addition to all the NFSM resources, FoodSafetyFocus.com provides thought-leadership, research and business tools to anyone within an operation who has a stake in food safety.
