Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association Launches
Women In Hospitality Leadership
Women In Hospitality Leadership
LANSING, MICH. – The Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association (MRLA) is launching Women in Hospitality Leadership (WIHL) chapters in Grand Rapids and Lansing. The announcement was made today by Justin Winslow, President and CEO of the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association.
As part of the MRLA, the mission of WIHL is to build community through education, mentorship and social responsibility to women in Michigan’s hospitality industry. WIHL membership is open to anyone in the hospitality industry who is a MRLA member.
“Women In Hospitality Leadership is a dynamic way for members of the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association to belong to a group that fosters professional growth and community engagement,” said Amanda Toy, Vice President of Membership & Operations of the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association. “Often, with tight schedules comes limited opportunity to focus on self-growth and giving back. Through WIHL, hospitality professionals engage in mentor relationships, local service-opportunities, professional development and networking in a manageable way. We are excited to offer this benefit to members and the industry throughout the state.”
On Thurs., Jan. 30, the Grand Rapids WIHL Chapter is hosting its first event of the year, “Goal Getters 2020,” at the Hyatt Place Grand Rapids/Downtown located at 140 Ottawa Ave. NW. The event, which will be held from 3:30 – 5 p.m, will focus on goal setting in 2020, and include an opportunity for networking with WIHL members. Local industry professionals are invited to attend.
The event is free for all attendees. For more information about the kickoff event, contact MRLA Senior Director of Marketing & Communications Emily Daunt at (517) 377-3933.
"For our West Michigan hospitality professionals involved in WIHL, what is most important to our members is making connections, education and giving back,” said Norina Cadili, Assistant General Manager of the JW Marriot Grand Rapids. “We are investing in ways to educate our members on how to become brave leaders and also focusing on students who have developed an interest in hospitality. As we continue to plan upcoming events, we are committed to engaging in meaningful relationships and encouraging support among those in our industry. We are grateful for the support of the MRLA, and together, we look forward to providing opportunities for women to find more value in the amazing hospitality industry."
Building upon WIHL’s mission, the Lansing WIHL Chapter is dedicated to lead by obtaining leadership competencies for members, regardless of their position in the industry; learn while removing barriers and providing solutions; and improve the industry by gaining valuable career momentum.
“WIHL is an important platform for connecting experienced and up-and-coming industry professionals, both in Lansing and across the state,” said Corri Harvey, Greater Lansing CVB Sales Coordinator and Co-Chair of the Lansing WIHL Chapter. “I am looking forward to bettering the industry in our community though educational and volunteer opportunities in the coming year and beyond. Working with my colleagues to improve our hospitality services for visitors is truly inspiring.”
