Local Midland and Michigan Businesses Join Forces to Serve 4,000 Meals
LANSING, MICH. – The Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association (MRLA) announced Feeding Midland County, a partnership to feed frontline workers and residents in the Midland area impacted by severe flooding earlier this week. A total of 4,000 dinners will be prepared with meals delivered to frontline workers today through Tues., May 26 and dinner provided to local residents Sun., May 24 through Tues., May 26. Governor Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Midland County after the Edenville and Sanford Dams breached.
Through the Feeding Midland County partnership, Midland-area businesses Big E’s Sports Grill, owned by Hudsonville, MI-based Suburban Inns; Gratzi and Real Seafood Company, part of Mainstreet Ventures Restaurant Group; and Molasses Smokehouse + Bar, owned by Downtown Restaurant Investments are preparing a total of 4,000 dinners for frontline workers and Midland residents. The relief effort also is supported by AT&T, Gordon Food Service and Sysco.
“On behalf of Molasses Smokehouse + Bar and my fellow restaurateurs at Big E’s Sports Grill and Gratzi in Midland, we are proud to work with the MRLA to feed the local residents and frontline workers as they work to recover from the devastating flooding in Midland County,” said Dave Dittenber, owner of Molasses Smokehouse + Bar and past Chair of the MRLA Board. “We are humbled and honored to step up and support the community where we do business.”
As part of Feeding Midland County, approximately 500 dinners will be prepared daily by Gratzi and Molasses Smokehouse + Bar to feed frontline workers beginning today through Tues., May 26. Meals will be delivered to the Emergency Operation Center, the Midland Police Department, the Midland Sheriff Department and Midland Fire Stations 1, 2 and 3. Dinner also will be provided to frontline workers at the Midland High School Shelter.
Beginning on Sun., May 24 through Tues., May 26, Midland area residents can pick up a free large pepperoni pizza curbside at Big E’s Sports Grill, located at 810 Cinema Drive. The restaurant will prepare and deliver 500 pizzas daily to customers’ cars curbside from 4 to 7 p.m., while supplies last.
“Restaurateurs are always quick to help their community in times of crisis. We are thankful to the Midland restaurants who have opened their kitchens to feed frontline workers and residents impacted by the destructive flooding,” said Justin Winslow, President and CEO of the MRLA. “We are also very appreciative of AT&T, Gordon Food Service and Sysco who are making this level of support possible.”
