Hotel Walloon Highlights
- The hotel was built to pay homage to the heritage of hospitality in Northern Michigan and specifically here in the Village of Walloon. The beautiful wood floors of the lobby are made of Michigan wood, and the large double-sided hearth room fireplace is made of Michigan stones. Our billiards room features beautiful high-resolution black and white photographs, created from glass negatives found in the Upper Peninsula, showing the lives of lumbermen, pioneers, Native Americans, and boat builders from the 1880s through the turn of the century.
- Walloon was once the summer home of Ernest Hemingway and was the home of Master and Haas boat builders. This heritage is kept alive through our Writer’s Retreats and Walloon Woodies, our lake’s wooden boat show that happens every year during the first week of August.
- For the modern touches, the hotel has a fitness center that features immersive Nordic Track and Peloton equipment, private lake access, as well as an outdoor heated whirlpool. The rooms have every touch of luxury, from heated tile floors, and every touch of home, to warm robes and slippers.
- The service of the hotel is modeled after all the great American hoteliers. It is centered on core values, such as ensuring that Hotel Walloon is the premier lodging destination in Northern Michigan with employees that are engaging, sincere, and take personal ownership in creating the expected experience for our guests that will leave them with a wish to return. There is a private bar for Hotel Walloon guests, complimentary valet service, and four food offerings in the hearth room during the day.
- At Hotel Walloon, we provide unlimited year-round adventure. From golfing to skiing, from vineyard tours to shopping in the Village and the surrounding areas. We are centrally located to act as the warm and inviting hub, for family and friends to explore the nature of Northern Michigan, and then return to relax and be pampered. We added a fireplace hearth to the beach patio this year to extend and add to our guest’s enjoyment and relaxation. Top-notch dining experiences are a few steps away at our casual Barrel Back restaurant, which features slow-smoked meats and stone-fired pizzas, or our fine dining establishment, the Walloon Lake Inn, which features a new private dining room, the Varnish Room, which is furnished with floor to ceiling mahogany and a private bar, as well as a refined wine menu.
