What is your business’ niche/specialty?
Schuler’s Restaurant and Pub is one of Michigan’s iconic eateries, serving generations of guests with unparalleled Midwestern hospitality, in the heart of historic downtown Marshall since 1909. Families have trusted Schuler’s to provide a distinctive dining experience whether it is for a special occasion or a casual gathering, while the local business community has relied on Schuler’s for corporate events of all sizes. Just this year, overnight accommodations have returned with the opening of The Royal Hotel, offering five new boutique rooms on the third floor of the restaurant building at 115 S. Eagle Street.
Why is the MRLA important to you and your business?
Over the past three years, the Michigan restaurant industry – including Schuler’s – has been severely affected by the Covid pandemic. President/CEO Sue Damron and her team appreciate MRLA keeping them updated on legislation and policies governing the industry during and coming out of this extensive crisis. The team at MRLA is an extension of the Schuler’s restaurant team and the resources the association brings are invaluable.

Schuler's Restaurant and Pub & The Royal Inn Highlights:
- Historic Centennial Room: Once a seven-lane bowling alley, this classic space has entertained thousands over the years for wedding receptions, birthdays, anniversaries, retirement parties, and other special events. Words of celebrated men like Abe Lincoln, Shakespeare and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., still grace the room’s heavy wooden beams and menu favorites like barbecue meatballs, Swiss onion soup, and roasted prime rib remain popular offerings.
- Winston’s Pub: Named for second-generation owner Win Schuler, this casual space was significantly renovated in 2020. The elevated stage areas were removed, the wall between the Pub and the Centennial Room were opened up, seating was rearranged, and the floors and ceilings were freshened up, all while maintaining the quaint feel of the early twentieth century the place is known for. There’s even an outdoor patio space, perfect for al fresco dining.
- The Royal Hotel: It has been over 50 years since the historic Schuler’s Hotel closed (1971) but this summer five new boutique guest rooms – named after streets in downtown Marshall – have opened for overnight stays. Named to honor the original hotel that stood at the corner of Eagle and Green streets, purchased by Albert Schuler in 1924, The Royal Hotel is a welcome addition to this quaint community.
- Banquets and Catering: Whether in one of its private dining areas or at an off-site location, Schuler’s is well-suited to assist with planning and executing meetings and special events of all kinds. The various rooms at Schuler’s can be set for conference, theatre, reception, or dinner service for groups up to 125 with passed hors d’oeuvres, plated, and buffet options. Technology and AV packages are also available.
- Schuler’s Bakery: Take the flavor of Schuler’s home with you and stop in the newly updated lobby for fresh breads, desserts, cookies, granola, and tasty house-baked crackers (which are perfect with the legendary Heritage Cheese spread, also available). You’ll also find a selection of Schuler’s logoed glassware, private label wine, kitchen accoutrements, and other fun gifts. Some items may also be available online at SchulersRestaurant.com.
