FY22 Budget: Pure Michigan and Revitalization Grants

Governor Whitmer has signed the final piece of Michigan’s Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) budget. While this is the largest budget in the state’s history, this budget still has not exhausted the relief dollars sent to Michigan via President Biden’s America Rescue Plan.
The signed FY22 budget includes the following MRLA priorities:
Over the remainder of the year, negotiations will continue to determine the most effective way to spend the remaining federal relief dollars sent to Michigan from the American Rescue Plan via budget supplementals. MRLA will continue to advocate for significant investment to be made to further assist the hospitality industry as it continues to face insurmountable challenges caused by COVID-19. Any funds not spent within three years will be returned to the federal government. MRLA will keep you updated as more details become available on forthcoming budget supplementals.
The signed FY22 budget includes the following MRLA priorities:
- A $15 million increase in funding for the Pure Michigan tourism campaign bringing the total funding amount to $40 million for FY22.
- $100 million for Community Revitalization and Placemaking Grants programs. The intention of these grants is to spur new economic development. These grants will help rehab vacant buildings and develop "place-based infrastructure" associated with social zones, downtowns, and outdoor dining in communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.

National Food Safety Month

September is declared National Food Safety Month (NFSM) and this year's theme was “Know Safe & Show Safe.” NFSM was created in 1994 by the National Restaurant Association to heighten the awareness about the importance of food safety education. Each year a new theme and free training activities are created for restaurants and the industry to help reinforce proper food safety practices and procedures.
The rules for food safety haven’t changed. The way we clean and keep restaurants safe is the same, but it’s become more important that your guests know that their safety will be held to the highest standard. During National Food Safety Month, this idea really comes to the forefront. People are eager to return and understand the value restaurants bring to the community. We want to reassure them and show them their safety is always the top priority.
The MRLA is dedicated to providing you with food safety resources all year long. Check out the content you may have missed that helps restaurant workers understand all of the ins and outs of this topic (“Know Safe”) and also helps them make guests aware that these best practices are being followed (“Show Safe”).
