What does Black History Month mean to you?
Black History Month means reflection, illumination, discovery and celebration of the contributions of persons of color to the world. The focus is bidirectional, reflecting on the past while encompassing the present.
What has been your biggest inspiration as a business owner?
I am inspired by the spirit of the people and the community that we serve. I am often moved by the resilience, ingenuity and resourcefulness of the people around me. As such, I cherish the moments spent in passing over a cup of freshly brewed coffee or delicious cake shake with my awesome customer base.
How has your identity shaped your business and brand?
The Sugah Please tag line “Savor the Sweetness” is a direct extension of my identity. The sweetness, not merely referring to the sweetness in the treats served, but in the quality of the customer services provided. Servant leadership in the hospitality space is embodied within Sugah Please and is a reflection of my identity which has shaped my brand. The commitment to customer service, the extension of gracious hospitality has served both me and my business well.
What is your business’ niche/specialty?
Soulful dishes, decadent desserts, craft cocktails and espresso based drinks.
Why is the MRLA important to you and your business?
The community and network the MRLA provides is extremely important. The opportunity to share common experiences, learn best practices, benefit from cost sharing, as well as the opportunity to remain aware of key issues that impact hospitality and lodging businesses at the local, state and federal levels is paramount to the survival of my business.
