Tell us about how your brewery got started.
It was a family affair! The three of us sisters returned to the west Michigan area after years away for college and jobs, and we had a renewed love for our small beach town. We had all really enjoyed the craft beer scene and wanted to bring something different to South Haven. After a lot of researching, planning, and experimentation, Three Blondes Brewing was born!
What new flavors are you brewing up?
Our brewer just finished barrel-aging a porter and finished it with vanilla and coffee from our local coffee shop, Snake Oil. Since South Haven claims the title of Blueberry Capital of the World, we love supporting our local blueberry growers and incorporating it in our beer! One of our seasonal beers is True Blue Bear, a wheat beer with over 200lbs of blueberries from True Blue Farms – it tastes like summer!
Do you have any exciting offerings for non-drinkers?
We are definitely seeing a lot more customers asking for non-alcoholic options, so we’re working on some mocktail ideas for the summer!
Why local? What makes Michigan-made brews so special?
Michigan, and specifically South Haven, is such a great mix of tourism and locals who really care about their community. We wanted to invest in and give back to our roots. The creativity here, the accessibility to local fruits and flavors, and the collaboration mindset really makes this a great state to brew beer!
How does collaboration between breweries and other hospitality businesses benefit the industry as a whole?
When we were in the research and planning phase of Three Blondes Brewing, we were astounded at the helpfulness and kindness showed to us by other brewery and restaurant owners. As my volleyball coach once preached, the Latin origin of “compete” means “to strive together.” Sharing advice and resources amongst each other helps us all improve and continue to offer better products and services to our local communities.
